30 June 2006

As part of the work the MSUO is undertaking on future project development, the Maritime Governance and Techology Consortium (MGTC) has been contracted to assist the MSUO.

The aim of the MGTC will be to identify maritime themes that could be developed as projects in the next Transnational and Cross-border programme (2007-2013). Themes could include for example sustainable management of sea areas, contingency planning, shipping, transportation and ports, ICZM, risk management, etc.

The MGTC will also seek to identify appropriate partners to take the projects forward. This will include both partners with the jurisdictional responsibilities in the specific issue, as well as general stakeholders with an interest in the specific theme. Emphasise will also be put on project themes to work within the existing schemes of maritime governance as established by the IMO, EU Maritime Safety Packages, national laws and regulations, subnational regional/local government, etc.

A questionnaire has been developed for potential stakeholders and other interested parties. Answers to this questionnaire will form the basis of the work described above.

We therefore urge anybody who would be interested in getting involved with future maritime projects to fill out the questionnaire below and return it to the contact person of the MGTC within the 31st July 2006:
